Since 1928, our name has been synonymous with pioneering innovation in the worldwide automotive industry. We are proud of our long and distinguished history of engineering excellence.

Our leadership in product development has resulted in an impressive list of "firsts"—the first mass produced automatic transmission, the first silent timing chain, HY-VO® chain for front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive, and the Sprag one-way clutch. Our most recent innovations include Torque on Demand® (TOD) systems for all-wheel drive, MORSE GEMINI® transmission chain systems and plastic air induction manifold systems.

We’re proud of our association with one of the world’s greatest racing events through our sponsorship of the BorgWarner Indianapolis 500 Trophy™. Since 1936, the BorgWarner Indianapolis 500 Trophy™ has been synonymous with top performance, speed, and leading-edge automotive technology—the same qualities that characterize BorgWarner.

The BorgWarner Manufacturers’ Challenge Cup is also presented each year to the manufacturer of the winning vehicle of the Off-Road World Championship held at the International Off-Road Raceway in Crandon, Wisconsin.

As we approach a new century of automotive excellence, BorgWarner remains a recognized leader in advanced powertrain solutions for the world’s leading vehicle makers. Our products improve the performance and reliability of engines, transmissions, and four-wheel drivetrains. They include highly-engineered components and systems for automatic transmissions, air and fluid management products and systems for improved performance and fuel economy, custom-designed four-wheel and all-wheel drive systems and the world-standard in transmission and engine chain systems.
